FAISALABAD: A man allegedly stabbed and killed his wife on Monday night after an altercation over a second marriage. He told Kamalia City police that his wife had committed suicide but the police investigated the incident and deduced that he had stabbed and killed her. The man and his accomplices have been arrested, police said.

Police said Haleema Bibi, 45, had been married to Muhammad Ayub, a resident of Paghlanwala, Kamalia City, for over 20 years. The couple had not had any children and Ayub blamed his wife for it. Police said the couple had had an altercation on the matter and Ayub and his brothers allegedly stabbed Haleema Bibi and killed her.

Rafiq Ali, a relative of the woman, told media persons that Muhammad Ayub had wanted to marry another woman because his wife had no children. “When he told Haleema Bibi that he was going to re-marry she scorned him and said he should get himself checked because he was probably impotent,” Ali said. He said that this comment infuriated Ayub who picked up a knife and stabbed Haleema Bibi in the belly.

He said that Haleema Bibi died on the spot.

Ali said that Ayub told police that Haleema Bibi had stabbed and killed herself. He said that Ayub had tried to place the knife back in the stab wound but in his haste changed the direction of the knife. When police investigated the stab wound, they realised that Ayub had staged the suicide.

The Kamalia City SHO said that they had registered a case against Muhammad Ayub and his four brothers who were present when Haleema Bibi was murdered.
