SWABI:

The district magistrate has banned swimming and boating in rivers and canals in Swabi under Section 144 in order to avoid any drowning incident.

Due to the scorching heat and prolonged power outages, many locals come to bathe and swim in rivers and canals, especially in Ramazan.

The Indus River, Stifa Canal, Pehur Canal and Gohati Canal attract many such swimmers. However, a number of people have lost their lives after being swept away by the strong current.

The restriction has been put in place for two months to avoid further loss of life in these areas. Policemen have also been ordered to patrol the spots and take action against those violating the ban. The order has been in effect since June 26.
