MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed has announced to lift ban on student union at educational institutes across AJK.

The prime minister said lifting ban on student union will help groom the future leadership.

Addressing the budget session on Sunday, Majeed said the government will soon announce schedule for the local government elections in the state after consulting the opposition.

He said the local body elections will strengthen democracy at the grass-roots level.

The premier also announced to reduce the voting age to 21 years from the existing 25 to encourage youth participation in the elections.

The assembly unanimously passed the resolution asking the federal government to release Rs45 billion to complete the reconstruction and rehabilitation of earthquake-hit areas of Muzaffarabad.

The house also renamed Cahkothi Road as Quaid-e-Azam Road.
