ISLAMABAD:

A total of 36, 831 families and 4,56,508 individuals – also carrying large flocks of livestock – have so far been displaced due to the ongoing military operation against militants in North Waziristan.

These latest stats are based on the daily situation report issued by chief secretary control room established at Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) at Saidgai Check Post, according to a handout issued by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Information Directorate.

Meanwhile, the Senate of Pakistan has contributed Rs5 million out of Senate Emergency Relief Fund to the Displaced Persons of North Waziristan Agency (DP NWA) relief operation by the Pakistan Army.

This decision, one of the first from any institution in the country, was taken by the Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari, in consultation with the Leader of the House Senator Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq and Leader of the Opposition Senator Aitzaz Ahsan.

A cheque amounting to Rs5 million was handed over by the Secretary Senate Amjed Pervez Malik to the Commander Logistic Area  Maj Gen Imtiaz Hussain Sherazi at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi.

The parliamentary party leaders and members of the Senate across the party lines had expressed solidarity with the armed forces when the government announced in the house to launch Zarb-e-Azb operation.

Concerned about the difficulties to be faced by the people of the areas in which operation is being undertaken, the senators and the elected leadership of the Senate wanted all possible efforts and support in mitigating their sufferings.
