Polluted water major issue: Justice Khawaja

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja of the Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday expressed concerns over the state of the environment in the country. “The average citizen drinks polluted water,” he said.


Addressing a conference on Water and Environmental Justice at the Punjab Judicial Academy, Justice Khawaja said that people and animals drank from the same water source in remote areas. He said that courts could play an important role in providing justice to nature.

Several judges of the Supreme Court, Lahore High Court and district and sessions and civil judges of the province attended the conference. The event was organised by the Committee for Enhancing Environmental Justice and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Pakistan.
