Mob mentality: Citizens take law into own hands, kill robbers

The robbers were being shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital but died on the way.

Two alleged robbers were tortured to death by a crowd of people in Orangi Town within the limits of the Iqbal Market police station.


Police sources said that the two suspects were trying to flee after injuring a passer-by, Kamran Aslam, for resisting their robbery attempt. However, a crowd of people managed to catch the robbers and then proceeded to physically assault them.

The robbers were being shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital but died on the way. They were later identified as Zahoor Alam and Tameer Shah, both residents of Baldia Town. However, SHO Ghulam Rasool Rajper while taking to The Express Tribune, claimed that both the robbers were killed during an exchange of fire with the police.

Similarly, an alleged Lyari gangster, Abdul Hameed aka Lambu, was killed while his companion managed to escape during an encounter near Chawal Godown in Maripur. SHO Chaudhry Saleem said that the deceased gangster was involved in robbing trucks loaded with rice and added that the encounter took place after he and his companion were caught red-handed by the police.

The officer said that the Sindh government had fixed a reward money of Rs500,000 his arrest. The case has been registered while further investigation was underway.

Shot dead

In a firing incident, an owner of the milk shop was shot dead when armed motorcyclists killed him for resisting their robbery attempt, claimed the police. The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Khalid Jamil. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. Meanwhile, two personnel of the traffic police were shot and injured by armed motorcyclists in Orangi Town, within the limits of the Pirabad police station. Police officials said that the injured - 35-year-old Munir Khan and his younger brother 35-year-old Ahmed Ali - were returning home after completing their shifts when the armed motorcyclists targeted them.
