A large number of visitors thronged the Kashmir pavilion to witness the spectacular culture of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) during the ongoing folk festival.


The pavilion showcasing Kashmiri art and craft pulled a large number of crowed, said a press release.

Many professional and amateur singers give performances and present Kashmiri folk music. When one enters the pavilion, the sweet voice of a young Kashmiri artist, Bano Rehmat, known as nightingale of Kashmir, can be heard. She sings different popular songs including “Terri jannat men ain ge ik din” and entertains the audience with her thrilling performances.

A contingent of over 37 artists including 11 artisans in the field of papier mache, wood carving, carpets, namda, gabba and Kashmiri shawl, embroidery from AJK is taking part in the festival.

Among the prominent artisans, Zulfiqar Ghazi, who specialises in the famous Kashmiri art of papier mache, could also be seen showcasing his talent in stain glass, fabric designing and traditional furniture painting.

With artistic skills and creativity running in his veins, Ghazi is determined to preserve and revive the golden era of Mughals.

Another artist, Irfan Ghulam Nabi, is a master craftsman in wood-carving. He says he learnt the art from his forefathers at the age of 7. He is imparting training to several students. Nabi uses walnut wood, cedar and rosewood for creating exquisitely carved furniture, doors, boxes and decorative items.
