PESHAWAR:

Suspected militants ambushed a military convoy in suburban Peshawar Friday afternoon, killing a soldier and wounding two others. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack that took place near Aziz Market on Frontier Road in the jurisdiction of Badhaber police station.

A military official confirmed the casualties and said the “injured are stable”. Contrary to initial reports, the official said it was not a roadside bomb.

“The double cabin pick-up which was on routine patrol came under fire from nearby buildings. The attackers fled the area after security forces returned fire and launched a search operation,” he added.

A senior police official told The Express Tribune that the military vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. “By the time police reached the spot, the attackers had fled,” he explained. Security forces have increased their patrolling in the area in the past few days.
