KARACHI:

Armed men placed explosives in a leather bag, which exploded with a loud bang, on Zamzama Lane 6 on Thursday. However, despite the deafening bang, no one was hurt in the blast.

The incident, which took place within the limits of the Clifton police station, comes just a day after the Sohrab Goth incident, where armed motorcyclists threw three hand grenades in quick succession in the vicinity.

At least half-a-kilogrammes of explosives were packed in a leather bag, revealed the duty officer of the Clifton police station. “The initial investigation has revealed that unidentified men were carrying explosives on a vehicle,” he said. “The explosives fell down onto the pavement and exploded. At the moment, it seems like the blast was not intended for the area, as we have no information about any threats received by the shopkeepers of Zamzama.”

The incident is the first case that will be tackled by female police officer Syeda Ghazala as an SHO, who took charge of the police station a mere two hours before the blast. However, the police did not find any connection between the blast and her appointment, said the duty officer.
