FAISALABAD:
Over 1,500 proclaimed offenders, including 36 most wanted criminals with head money in Faisalabad, have not been arrested by the police, The Express Tribune has learnt.
A Police Department officer, talking to The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity, said that all station house officers in the district had been ordered to launch a crackdown on proclaimed offenders.
He said, unfortunately, most of the SHOs had submitted false reports regarding the arrests.
City Police Officer Haidar Ashraf said investigations had revealed that some proclaimed offenders had left the country.
He said a comprehensive strategy was being prepared to bring back all these criminals with help from Interpol.
He said red warrants against 10 proclaimed offenders who were reported to have settled abroad had been sent through Interpol.
Red warrants of another seven would also bee sent, soon.
The city police officer said that he had issued orders to all station house officers to ensure arrest of at least 102 proclaimed offenders till February 16. He said targets had been given to each police station.
He said the Civil Lines police have been directed to arrest 20 proclaimed offenders, City Jaranwala police 14, Khurarianwala police 12, Balochni police 10, Peoples Colony police eight, Madina Town police seven, Sitiana police four, Rodala Road and Ghulam Muhammadabad police three each, Batala Colony, Samanabad, Rail Bazaar, Sargodha Road, Jhang Bazaar, Mureed Wala and Thikriwala police two each and Kotwali, Gulberg, Mansoorabad, Saddar Tandlianwala, Bahlak and Mamunkanjan police one each.
