Youth Festival: PYF volunteers prepare for world record events

As many as 203 of 1,063 participants on Monday qualified for the next round of the Punjab Youth Festival on the second day of division-level games.

Lahore’s Zameer Sultan defeated Ghulam Haider of Sheikhupura in the arm-wrestling final in the below-70 kg category. The 85 kg competition was won by Hamad Asad, also from Lahore.

In the over-85 kg contest, Hafiz Haider of Lahore beat Muhammad Fayyaz of Sheikhupura.

In the mud-wrestling contest, Muhammad Sarwar of Sheikhupura won the 65 kg category game followed by Lahore’s Abdus Sattar.

The 75 kg title went to Nankana Sahib’s Hafiz Ali Akbar who beat Muhammad Usman of Kasur.

In the chess championship, Amir Kareem of Lahore beat Abdul Sattar of Sheikhupura.

In Rawalpindi division, 72 players competed in various PYF events and four won.

Two out of seven players qualified for the next round from Sargodha division.

In Faisalabad division, 296 people competed and 85 won.

In Multan division, 168 players competed and 42 moved to the next round.

As many as 120 athletes competed in Bahawalpur division and 48 were victorious.

Guinness world records

Punjab Sports Board Director General Usman Anwar said, “Volunteers have been assigned duties for the world record events.”

He said the attempt to set the record for the largest human flag would be made here at the National Hockey Stadium on February 15.

Education-sector games

In a chess contest, Government Model High School for Boys defeated Government High School Mahalam Kalan, Kasur.

In a tug-of-war event, Government High School Mahalam Kalan, Kasur lost to Govt Higher Secondary School, Mor Khanda, Nankana Sahib.

Government High School Allama Iqbal Town won the basketball crown against Goverment Model High School for Boys Model Town.

Government High School, Feroze Watwan, beat Government High School Mozang in the volleyball title clash.
