KARACHI: Chairman Standing Committee on Gwadar Promotion and Development, Colonel (Retd) Maqbool Afridi, has called for the constitution of an honorary council of professionals, stakeholders and technocrats to report about Gwadar Port’s development to the prime minister. Speaking to the media, he said the country’s economic development depended on operationalisation of the Gwadar Port. “It would not only help revive the economy but will also create employment opportunities for the youth,” he said, adding local and foreign investors should be encouraged to invest in Gwadar. Afridi sought the support of China and the US for the development of infrastructure at the port. “Gwadar has enormous potential from all dimensions, whether it is business, manufacturing, storage or any kind of business activity,” he said.
