KARACHI:

At least two people were injured during a war that broke out between two gangs in Lyari on Saturday.

Police officials said that members of the Jabbar Jhengu gangster group, associated with the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee, had attacked rival group members that were being led by Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla and Ghaffar Zikri in Sarbazi Mohalla, Gul Mohammad Lane and Ali Mohammad Mohalla.

Police officials said that gangsters used more than one dozen rockets, awans and hand grenades in an attempt to capture the areas occupied by Baba Ladla and Ghaffar Zikri. However, they were forced to retreat after rival groups retaliated.

Following the incident, law enforcers reached the area where the incidents took place but were unable to arrest any of the gangsters behind the confrontation.

Law enforcement agencies have set up posts in areas of Lyari that are most affected by violence to deal with the gangsters.

“We have now established our pickets at their (gangsters) stronghold areas,” said Lyari DSP Ghulam Murtaza Mirani.

“The gangsters will now be unable to attack law enforcers or even clash with each other.”

At least seven pickets were established in affected areas of Sarbazi Mohalla, Ali Mohammad Mohalla, Gul Mohammad Lane and Al-Falah road. Mirani revealed that more pickets will be established in Lyari soon.
