Fire at textile factory in Karachi destroys goods worth millions

The fire in SITE factory was the third fire of the day at garment factories in the city on Friday.

KARACHI: A major fire broke out at a textile mill in the industrial district of SITE in Karachi on Friday evening. While there were no people inside, the blaze caused damage worth millions to goods stored.

The factory is located near Gulbai in SITE, within the limits of SITE B Section police station.

Fire fighters had initially declared it as a category ‘three’ fire, the highest degree of fire, and rushed a large number of fire tenders to the site.

After hectic efforts of around two-and-a-half hours, fire fighters were able to control the blaze.

According to fire brigade officials, the fire broke out at a warehouse of the ground-plus-one storey unit of Adnan Textile Mills. Firemen were able to control the fire before it engulf to entire building.

They said that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

SHO Sohail Khan of SITE B police station said that several workers were also present in the mill but all of them had been evacuated. He added that a fire had also broke out in the same mill last year.

He said that the investigation was underway while the fire fighters were busy in the cooling process to douse the fire completely.

This was the third fire at the garment factories in the city on Friday.
