Express News correspondent Shah Waliullah said that the measure was taken to ensure security in Karachi on Friday. Religious groups have announced that they will stage protest demonstrations in Karachi on Friday called in response to the volatile security situation in Rawalpindi.
A demonstration is planned at Gurumandir to protest against the violence in Rawalpindi last week.
On November 15, sectarian clashes had erupted at an Ashura procession near Fawara Chowk, that left at least 11 people dead and over 80 injured. Unidentified people had also set a portion of the cloth market in Raja Bazaar on fire.
"Interior secretary Mumtaz Shah has confirmed that a ban on pillion riding is being imposed in Karachi," reported Waliullah, adding that the government has further directed police officials and Rangers to ensure foolproof security during the strike.
A similar ban was imposed earlier in the city on Muharram 9 and 10 to address security concerns.
On a police request, the ban was then extended for two days. On another request, it was prolonged for two more.

@Sad ... Don't judge happiness by the size of the transport one owns. The rider above and his family may be happier and more content than most of the people we know. I know that I was happier when I had less money and less things to worry about.
