Threats: Businessman seeks extortion case

An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday adjourned for November 23 a petition filed by a businessman seeking a case against a man for alleged extortion.


Petitioner Talha Mumtaz Mir said that had run ZM Enterprises on McLeod Road for over 30 years. He said a few weeks ago a man named Ijaz Qureshi had called him and demanded Rs1.6 million. Qureshi had threatened him with “dire consequences” if the amount was not paid.


Mir said he had approached the relevant SHO to file a complaint but had been turned away. He requested the court to direct the SHO to register a case against Qureshi.
