PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak on Thursday lifted the ban imposed on hiring in public sector institutions. The transfer and posting mechanism for the education department will be legislated after feedback from local teachers.

CM Khattak made the announcement while talking to a delegation of MPAs and influential persons of Swabi district led by K-P Minister for Science and Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai at CM Secretariat.

Participants of the delegation apprised the chief minister about the problems faced in the district, including those related to Tobacco Board, Labour Board and Karnal Sher Khan Board, Swabi-Mardan Road, Construction of Karnal Sher Khan interchange and other agricultural and infrastructure concerns. The requests also included providing gas and electricity to certain localities of the district.

Addressing the delegation, the chief minister said his government would not “play to the gallery” and promised to resolve long-standing problems of the people. He said the development strategies would be chalked out by people from the respective areas as they were aware of the problems faced by locals.

Khattak stressed no political interference would be tolerated and merit would strictly be followed in all government departments. He also assured efficient utilisation of funds for development schemes.

“Our province is a food deficient province,” he said while explaining the importance of the agriculture sector. He said his government would actively work to increase seed production, produce and capacity.

“We strongly condemn the FIR against a house officer at Khyber Teaching Hospital and demand the government to devise a policy so no FIRs can be lodged against any doctor during their services,” stated the resolution. The resolution was unanimously passed by the general body.

On October 3, unidentified armed men kidnapped Dr Kamran Amir Khan from Hayatabad near his residence. The doctor hailed from Dar Mangi, Warsak Road.

Late night September 14, Dr Mujahid Hussain was kidnapped from Hayatabad. Hussain and his cousin Shoaib Nabi left their house in Hayatabad Phase II and did not return. His brother Iftikhar Hussain speculated the doctor had been abducted in a case of mistaken identity, confused with Dr Syed Mujahid Hussain the brother of late Dr Riaz Hussain, who was gunned down in Dabgari Gardens earlier in January.
