Crackdown: 47 more arrested in search operation in Badhaber

Nine proclaimed offenders among those arrested.

Around 47 people were arrested in a search operation conducted in Badhaber on the outskirts of the city on Saturday morning.


The operation was jointly conducted by security forces and police in Bazid Khel, Kagawala, Ahmad Khel and Masho Khel villages.

Security forces cordoned off the villages and police conducted a door-to-door search operation, resulting in the arrest of 47 people. These include nine proclaimed offenders wanted by the police in different cases. The rest were held on the basis of suspicion and shifted to a police station for interrogation.



“These are the villages where polio workers have been targeted in the past and they are known for militant activities so the operation was long due,” said a police official, adding the operation lasted nearly three and a half hours.

He said arms and ammunition had also been recovered from the proclaimed offenders.

In similar operations carried out on Thursday and Friday in Pishtakhara, Yakatoot and Chamkani, as many as 224 people were arrested.

Police officials suspended in Mardan, DI Khan

Nearly 81 police officials, including inspectors, sub inspectors and assistant sub inspectors (ASI) were suspended in Mardan and DI Khan on charges of corruption.

According to a handout issued by the provincial inspector general police on Saturday, an inquiry has been ordered against the suspended officers.

A police official in Mardan said 24 policemen had been suspended in the district under varying charges. The officials include five inspectors, six sub inspectors and nine ASIs as well as four policemen of other ranks.

“We had initiated an inquiry against 46 police officials out of which 24 have already been suspended,” he added.

The police official explained some of the inspectors under investigation own large and expensive villas in Sheikh Maltoon Housing Scheme in Mardan and had also acquired large areas of agricultural lands.

Similarly, 57 policemen, including four inspectors, 15 sub inspectors, 6 ASIs and 32 junior officials were also suspended in DI Khan and are facing inquiry.
