LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Sports Board on a petition seeking a stay on elections at the federation.

Former Olympian Naveed Alam filed the petition, stating that the PHF elections had been rigged as some candidates and some members of the election commission also occupied senior posts in the federation.

The petitioner asked the court to stay the PHF election until November 25 and directed the respondents to follow the rules and regulations. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan sought replies from the respondents by November 11.

Also on Thursday, a petition was filed at the LHC seeking a stay on the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman until the completion of the electoral college.

Petitioner Izzat Syed, the ad-hoc president of the Lahore Region Cricket Association, submitted that the electoral college, consisting of the presidents of a total of 111 district and regional cricket associations, was only 70 per cent full.

About 30 per cent of the associations were operating without presidents, or their elections had been challenged in the courts.

He said that the PCB chairman election, scheduled for November 2, should be delayed until the electoral college is complete.
