Ruet-e-Hilal committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman presided over the session of the central committee in Karachi while sessions of Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee continued in other cities.
The central committee makes the final decision on the basis of moon sighting testimonies from across the country and makes the final announcement of moon sighting.
"The decision of the moon sighting will be taken after reaching a unanimous agreement with zonal committees," said Rehman.
Quetta was the first city in which the moon was sighted. For Lahore, it was expected that the moon would be visible at 6:33 PM.
Officials from the meteorological department were present in the sessions convened to sight the moon.
In the Islamic calendar, Eidul Azha falls on the 10th day of Zil Haj and lasts for three days. In the Gregorian calendar, the dates vary from year to year, drifting approximately 11 days earlier each year.

@Muslim - "with most of the festivals that fall on every day of every year in one or the other parts of India, " Well life is big celebration for us Hindus and happiness is not frowned upon as in your country/religion. Additionally our religion also promotess diversity & tolerance, hence the no of festivals in "one of other parts of India".

@ Muslim
Brother, what a 'sweet' and 'peaceful' reply to an innocent remark by @Indian. Way to go with the aggression & taunting another religions festivals.(There are a few surviving hindus in pakistan too) Self righteousness & stiff necked much ?
Has the govt. announced Holidays yet?

its not a festival first of all and even if it is its not based on 'NOTHING' as is the case with most of the festivals that fall on every day of every year in one or the other parts of India, since it is a very significant part of our religion, unlike other FESTIVALS, that's why the exact date needs to be identified and thus a committee @Indian:
these many committees for a festival,,,,really surprising!!!!,,happy bakrid!!!
Eid-ul-Adha is a day after Hajj and Hajj is on 14th of Oct, therefore it should be on 15th of Oct.
