Both initiatives are being supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the German Development Bank (KFW). The blood centre will add to nine other blood centres to meet the needs of six major state-run hospitals. The bio-safety lab will be an advanced diagnostic facility for TB patients in the province where a wide range of tests, including drug susceptibility testing (DST) among others, will be performed.
“The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government believes in adopting innovative means and methods to effectively control diseases in the province by utilising advanced scientific methods. Controlling TB is one of those efforts, which is a priority for our government,” said Yousafzai.

Health Secretary Dr Fakhar-e-Alam stressed on the need for advanced scientific solutions to meet the emerging challenges of TB.
Dr Stefan Oswald, the division head for Afghanistan and Pakistan at BMZ, reaffirmed the commitment of the German government to improve healthcare services and quality of lives in Pakistan, particularly K-P. Oswald appreciated the efforts of the K-P health department and hoped Germany’s support will improve healthcare in
the province.

Thank you KPK Government and German Government for making this possible. This was not possible in the previous government because the funds given by other governments went into the pockets of the elected representatives.
