FAISALABAD:

A man died and another was hospitalised after consuming toxic liquor in two incidents on Friday night. Gojra police have arrested a couple for selling toxic liquor to one of them.

Ejaz Ahmad, a resident of Chak 306-JB, told police that his brother Bilal Ahmad and his friend Hassan Nawaz had told him that they were going to see another friend.

Ahmad said that Nawaz took his brother to Shaho Masih’s house where they purchased liquor from Shaho Masih’s son Nauman. “Nawaz gave my brother the liquor. He became ill because the liquor was toxic,” he said.

Instead of taking Bilal Ahmad to the hospital, Nawaz took him to Chak 304-JB, Kathor, and dumped him in a field where he died, said Ahmad, “Nawaz then fled.”

Gojra SHO told The Express Tribune that they had sent the body to a mortuary for post mortem. “We have registered a case on Ahmad’s complaint and have arrested Shaho Masih and his wife Shamim Bibi. We are looking for Nawaz,” he said, “Action will be taken once the post mortem report is received.”

Ashfaq, 30, a resident of Liaquat Town, Faisalabad, also consumed toxic liquor and passed out. He was taken to Allied Hospital where his condition was said to be critical.
