Other prominent names include Pakistan Open champion Mohammad Nazir and Azhar Shah Bukhari. Both recently completed a trainer’s course at the US Teachers’ Foundation.
In the first phase, over 50 young golfers aged between five to 15 years will get basic lessons from the experienced golfers in the two-day clinic that begins today at the Karachi Golf Club.
“This initiative can do wonders,” Ahmed, the Pakistan number two, said at the event’s launch yesterday.
“There is a bright future for talent in this sport. Pakistan has great talent in golf I hope we will be able to find good players for the future.
“Golf has never been able to grab the limelight like other sports and I feel a new era in this game has begun.
“The Pakistan Golf Federation should also start such programmes that will be very helpful in lifting the sport in our country.”
Amir Pasha, representing the cellular company organising the event, said that golf was the budding sport in the country and the aim behind the plan was to help prepare future golfers.
