Pakistan women team makes it to BFAME Bridge final

The team won seven of the eleven games in Ahmedabad, India.

KARACHI: Rubina Agha's Pakistan women team advanced into the final of 17th Bridge Federation of Asia & Middle East (BFAME) Championship after winning seven of the 11 games in Ahmedabad, India.

According to details made available by Mind Sports Association of Pakistan (MSAP) on Monday, playing on top of the point's table throughout the league rounds Pakistan's women national team ended with199.5 Victory Points (VPs) with seven wins, three defeats and one draw.

The Pakistan team which includes Zeenat Azwar, Roshan Ara Bukhari, Rubina Hai and Fatima Raza made a sterling start by beating Sri Lanka 22-8 in the first round while handing out defeat to host team 18-12 in the second.

They lost Palestine 14-16 in the third round and held the same team to a 15-all draw in the fourth.

Pakistan thrashed Sri lanka 23-7 in the fifth round but lost lost to India 9.5-19.5 before hammering Sri Lanka 22-8 and Palestine 21-9in in the seventh and eighth round respectively.

The Pakistan's women team beat India and Sri Lanka in the 9th and 10 round but lost their last league game 9-12 to Palestine in triple round robin league game.

Seven Open and four women teams of the Zone-IV are vying for the coveted Zakaria Adamjee and the Vinodini Goenka trophies respectively.

Seniors are to go straight into the finals after playing quadruple round robin league.

Finalists in each of three categories Open, Women and Seniors will qualify for the 41st Bermuda Bowl, 19th Venice Cup and 7th Seniors Bowl being staged in Bali, Indonesia in September.

While the Pakistan's men and seniors teams appear to be struggling to finish amongst the top two, Pakistan's women team seemed to have performed exceptionally well.
