“I don’t think it is all negative to be honest, I think the greatest criticism of news coverage in Pakistan is that there isn't enough!”

British journalist and presenter Jon Snow -- best known for presenting Channel 4 News -- talks to Suzanne Wakefield of the London Metropolitan University about how Pakistan is portrayed in the media.

According to Snow, the British media reflects a widely spread negative view of Pakistan due to the Afghan war, racial prejudice, and stereotypical perceptions of the Muslim faith.

The enormous British influence in Pakistan is referred to as the “imperial hangover” which Snow says should bring forth better relations between the two countries -- one consisting of aid and trade.

The “huge Pakistani diaspora” in Britain plays a key role in defining Britain’s relationship with Pakistan, he says.

The reason why people turn to Pakistan when an act of terror by a Muslim takes place is that Pakistan is known as the epicentre of Islamic jihad. Hints... Osama found in Abottabad, Daniel Pearl beheading, Khalid Mahmood of 9/11 found in Pakistan just to mention few. As a media man you should understand it better than a layman. Moreover, most of these African immigrants in UK attend mosques with hugely patronised by Muslims of Pakistani origin. It doesn't pay to remain in Ostreach mode.

Being a Pakistani expat and a media person, I can share with you all that it is the purest and most impartial analysis of a journalist on a subject. If a terrorist as in the recent British soldier murder case is an African, still the object of revenge and retribution are Pakistanis. What Pakistan need is to take a stand and wage a media war in Uk, US and India. On the other hand government in Pakistan has to deliver positively if to be reported in media positively.
