LAHORE:

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the fresh appointment of 19 law officers at the Advocate General’s Office by the caretaker Punjab government.

The government had sacked 20 law officers on May 3 and appointed 19 to replace them.

The sacked law officers stated in their petition that the provincial Law Department had removed them from service in violation of its mandate.

They said Advocate General Shahid Karim and the caretaker law minister had assured the High Court that no law officers would be sacked, but had gone back on their word.

They said the appointments and removal of government officers was not the mandate of the caretaker government, as this was just an interim administration.

They requested the court to set aside the decision removing the law officers and reinstate them in their jobs.
