LAHORE:
Accepting former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf’s petition, the full bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday annulled the verdict of an election tribunal which had barred him from contesting elections from NA-51 constituency of Rawalpindi.
The bench, allowing his petition, remarked that since there was no court ruling which declared Ashraf “non-profligate, non-righteous, non-sagacious, non-Ameen and non-Sadiq” he could therefore not be barred from participating in elections.
In his appeal against the tribunal’s decision, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, through Advocate Farooq H Naek, contended that the returning officer had rejected his papers after Raja Irfan Aziz, his political rival, alleged that Ashraf had misused discretionary funds in his constituency. Former law minister Farooq H Naek said that the petitioner was only pointing towards unproven allegations.

Until proven guilty, he should not be banned by the ECP. Yet, his party should not have put his name forward given the serious allegations against him. For less many are removed from their party.
