The United Nations Development Programme handed over the first set of voter education materials to the Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming general elections.

According to a press release, the kits – including stickers, posteras, t-shirts, caps, pens and badges – have been sent to provincial, regional and district field offices of the commission to support them with their outreach work.

“Citizens well versed in their rights and obligations and knowledge of the crucial issues at the centre of the debate [form] a cornerstone of democratic culture, which in turn is crucial for sustainable human development,” said UNDP Pakistan Country Director Marc-André Franche.

The UNDP helped the election commission train more than 200 of its regional and district officers on voter education earlier this year – a first in the commission’s history.
