HAROONABAD: Hundreds of farmers staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday against agricultural land being affected in the area to waterlogging and salinity. The farmers said 5,000 acres of land in Chak 48, Chak 49, Chak 57 and Chak 92 had been destroyed because of waterlogging from the Hakra irrigation canal. They demanded that the government conduct surveys and take anti-waterlogging measures in the affected areas. They said turbine pumps should be installed to remove the saline water. The farmers also demanded write-off of their agricultural loans.
