Prisoner’s escape: Cops remanded for two days over negligence

A judicial magistrate on Tuesday sent on remand two policemen who were arrested after an under trial prisoner had escaped from a lock-up inside the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) premises on Monday.


Constables Zahid Hussain and Moinullah were charged for negligence after the prisoner, Rajab Ali, had managed to flee. Ali was accused of taking part in a kidnapping for ransom incident in 2011, was arrested from Malir in November 2012.

An FIR No. 23/2013 was registered against the two constables, under Sections 223 (negligence of public servant leading to escape from confinement), 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to lawful apprehension) and 225 (obstructing lawful apprehension of another person) of the Pakistan Penal Code, at Mithadar police station.

The investigation officer produced the two constables before judicial magistrate South, Asadullah Bhutto. The officer was ordered to produce the charge sheet.

Funny thing is, govt officials simply get 'transferred' for their wrong doings but never get fired or arrested. This is the law and order we have.
