LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Monday disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-i-Azam (Forward-Bloc) MPA Khalid Mahmood Sargana, who was elected to the Punjab Assembly from PP-78 Jhang, after he failed to establish the authenticity of his university degree.

Petitioner Muhammad Anwar, a voter from the constituency had submitted that the respondent had contested the general election of 2008 using a fake degree.

He said that Sargana should be declared ineligible to hold the assembly seat as he did not fulfill the requirements of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

Sargana’s lawyer denied the charges. Both sides concluded arguments on Monday after which Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan disqualified Sargana.
