KARACHI: The nephew of prominent businessman and stock broker, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi - who is popularly known as AKD - was among five people detained by the police on Tuesday.

Clifton SP Nasir Aftab confirmed that Dhedhi’s nephew, Faizan, his driver, two private security guards and a friend had been taken into custody from Bilawal House Chowrangi, within the jurisdiction of Boat Basin police station. A duty-officer, Muhammad Aqeel, told The Express Tribune that Faizan and his companions were travelling in a silver Mercedes when they were stopped by the police for routine snap-checking.

As they were looking inside the car, the law enforcers found two sub-machineguns and two pistols, and then took the men to a police station.

The officer added that the detainees later produced the permits and licenses for the weapons, after which they were released. No case had been registered against the five men, as they had licences, and were not displaying the weapons. AKD was unavailable for comments, despite repeated attempts to reach him.
