Five alleged militants arrested in Gujrat

Militants were planning on carrying out terror bids during the month of Muharram.

GUJRAT: Security agencies along with the police launched a search operation in different areas of Gujrat and arrested five alleged militants on Thursday, Express News reported.

District Police Offcer (DPO) Raja Basharat revealed that the militants were involved in several terror acts in the past and were planning on carrying out terror bids on a huge scale in the month of Muharram.

The alleged militants were arrested from Bhambar Road, Ghari Ahmedabad and Buzurqwal areas.

Weapons including Kalashnikovs, suicide vests, hand grenades and laptops were recovered from them.

According to Express News correspondent Abdulsattar, IG Punjab Habibur Rehman will hold a press conference in this regard, today.

A few years back, former DPO Gujrat Raja Munawwar conducted a similar operation and arrested al Qaeda-linked terrorist Ahmed bin Halqan from the Islamnagar area of the city.

On Wednesday, five militants belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)’s Punjab faction, said to have been involved in carrying out terror bids, were arrested when they were on their way to Dera Ismail Khan from Sher Kot.
