Judicial commission to probe Balochistan journalist killing: Rehman Malik

ISLAMABAD: A judicial commission will be constituted to ascertain the facts about the killing of a private news channel journalist in Khuzdar, said Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday.

The general secretary of Khuzdar Press Club Abdul Haq was gunned down near Khuzdar Post Office in main Khuzdar city some 300 kilometres away from the provincial capital on September 29.

The commission, to be headed by a senior judge, will also include members of the journalist community.

Malik was talking to media persons, who were protesting outside the National Press Club (NPC) here against the killing of their colleague.

The interior minister said that he will also assign Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials to probe the reason behind the murder so that a strategy could be prepared to avoid such incidents in future.

He also announced withdrawal of cases registered against journalists who held a protest in Quetta in this regard. He added that he has announced Rs2.5 million reward for anyone who provides information leading to the killers' arrest.

Besides providing financial assistance to the deceased’s family, Malik said Haq’s son will be given a job in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
