KARACHI:

Ahmed Ali Malik, the son of property tycoon Malik Riaz, who has been accused in a 1,401 kanal land case was admitted to protective bail for four weeks against a solvent surety of one million rupees by Justice Nisar Muhammad Shaikh.

According to the prosecution, the accused had land transferred through fake sale deeds. Shaukat Hayat advocate, the counsel for the applicant and co-accused in the case pending before the Special Anti-Corruption Court in Rawalpindi, argued that the applicant had been in the United Kingdom for a few months and had landed in Karachi yesterday. Upon his arrival, he came to know about the warrants of arrest issued by the trial court and immediately surrendered before the SHC to ask for protective bail.

The entire case is politically motivated and the applicant apprehends arrest is just a tactic to humiliate him and his family, the counsel said, adding that the accused would voluntarily appear before the trial court. The SHC bench admitted him to bail against a solvent surety of one million rupees for four weeks with the direction to surrender before the trial court in this period or the bail will be treated as revoked.

He is wanted by the police in Rawalpindi, and he ended up in Karachi to get protective bail? What a travesty of justice!
