KARACHI:

Aladin Amusement Park has gone to court as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has cancelled its licence for a wireless system which it says it needs for security.

In 2007, the PTA had provisionally allotted Aladin park a specific frequency and bandwidth.

The network consisted of a base station and seven walkie-talkie sets. It was effective within a range of three kilometre radius.

But the authority later cancelled the license when the park failed to pay Rs12,000.

AA Joy Land, which operates the park, filed a petition in the Sindh High Court which heard it on Friday.

The PTA not only cancelled the license but also lodged a criminal complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency for the alleged misuse of a wireless system without a valid licence.

An FIA team accompanied by PTA officials also took away the park’s wireless sets, base station equipment and other accessories. A criminal revision against the matter was also fixed for hearing on Friday.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued notices to the PTA and Deputy Attorney General among other respondents, including the PTA zonal director of enforcement.

The petition will be fixed for hearing after two weeks.
