Shootout: Four die in police raid to free kidnapped men

DPO says criminals had killed the kidnapped man and left his body behind. Some of them fled towards the tribal area.

As many as four men, including two police constables and man kidnapped three months ago and held for ransom, died in shootout between the police and the criminals in Harand, a sub district of Rajanpur.


The operation, to recover two men who were kidnapped three months ago from Rahim Yar Khan, began at 4am. One of the abducted men, Abdul Rahim Arain, was recovered unharmed.

The operation to capture the criminals was still underway till the filing of this report.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Akhtar, an Elite Force constable; Munir Ahmed, a constable in the Punjab Police; and Haq Nawaz Baloch, the kidnapped man. On Sunday, the police were informed about the kidnappers’ shelter. The area was raided by a team led by Harand SHO Bakht Ali. DPO Asif Shehzad said the criminals had killed the kidnapped man and his body was left behind. Some of them fled towards the tribal area. He said the head of the gang, Ata Khosa was killed in the shootout. The DPO said it was too early to say if the gang were holding other kidnapped people.
