LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the prosecutor general on a petition by former Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Aslam Madhyana seeking the transfer of his torture trial from Sargodha.  Madhyana and others are accused of breaking the legs of a 60-year-old schoolteacher named Nafees Ahmed Khan in Sargodha. Madhyana’s counsel submitted that following a resolution passed against the petitioner by the Sargodha District Bar Association, no lawyer was ready to take up his case before the trial court. He asked that the trial be moved from the Sargodha anti-terrorism court to any other district.  The court issued notices to the prosecutor general and the Sargodha bar association’s president and secretary for June 7. The court also extended a stay on the trial court’s verdict. Another petition from Madhyana, seeking the removal of terrorism charges from the FIR against him and the transfer of the case from an anti-terrorism court to a court of ordinary jurisdiction, is pending.
