Fatal accident: MPA spared prosecution

No investigations have been initiated by police after two people were killed in an accident on Wednesday in which Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Sher Ali Gorchani’s car hit a motorcycle. Three others were injured. The family of the deceased had decided against prosecuting the suspects.


Gorchani was commuting to Rajanpur when he hit a motorcycle driven by Fayaz, 18, near Hamuwala Village on the Indus Highway. Fayaz was commuting to Fazilpur with a woman relative, her two children and his younger brother. Zahida, 35, and Qadeer, 2, died on the spot. Gorchani took the injured namedly Fayaz, Farzana and Sonan to a nearby hospital in Fazilpur.

Eyewitnesses told The Express Tribune that Gorchani had driven the car; however, he said that his driver was at the wheel. The family were peasants who worked for a local landowner and had told local area magistrate Ayub Gul that they had forgiven those responsible for the accident. Rajanpur Saddar DSP Zafar Buzdar told The Express Tribune that the family had told the magistrate that they did not want to prosecute the suspects.
