SUKKUR/ HYDERABAD:

The chief minister approved the summary to send post-mortem samples of the chairman of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Bashir Qureshi, to London for a chemical examination.

The party leaders were sceptical of the report made by the 15-member team set up by the health department. They submitted an application to the home minister, requesting him to send the viscera to a reputable laboratory in London. JSQM’s general secretary, Asif Baladi, appreciated the government’s decision while talking to The Express Tribune. “Manzoor Wasan had promised to conduct an impartial inquiry by sending the sample abroad,” he said. “We are thankful to him. But we will wait and see if government implements its own decision.”

Strike

Shutter-down strikes were observed in numerous districts of Sindh on Saturday. The strikes were  called by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaaz (JSQM) to express its dissatisfaction with the medical report of its late leader, Bashir Qureshi.

Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Ghotki, Pano Akil, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Larkana and other divisions wore deserted looks, while a partial strike was observed in Sukkur.

Activists of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and JSQM clashed after the latter tried to shut down shops in Khandu. PPP workers allegedly shot and injured two JSQM members, with Ameen Sangrasi later succumbing to injuries at Civil Hospital Hyderabad.

Tharparkar police arrested six people, including two children and a journalist, in Mithi taluka. Liaquat Nohrio, reporter for a television channel, and the children were later released after SSP Abid Qaimkhani reached the police station to pacify protesting journalists. However, four JSQM workers were charged with vandalism.

Police and Rangers also raided Shoro Khan village and arrested 12 suspects.

JSQM activists, armed with wooden sticks, forced shopkeepers in Sukkur to close down their shops as soon as they had opened them. Glass panels of shops were broken and passing vehicles were pelted with stones. Protesters also set ablaze a motorcycle at Waritar road. Police added that four JSQM workers were arrested.
