KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan issued on Friday a schedule for the by-election to a seat which fell vacant after former chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim was thrown out by the Sindh Assembly for failing to attend its sessions since 2008.

According to the schedule, the by-election for the PS-60 Diplo seat will be held on May 19. Nomination forms will be issued from April 16 to 17.  The scrutiny of the papers would take place on April 18 and 19 before a list of final candidates is announced.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a leader of the Likeminded group of the PML-Q, MPA Razzaque Rahimoon, said that the party had nominated Arbab Naimatullah, a nephew of the former chief minister, but a final decision would be made within a couple of days.

On the other hand, the PPP has not yet officially announced the name of its candidate, but party leaders believe that either Engineer Wali Muhammad Rahimoon or Ghulam Muhammad Lot would be nominated.
