LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court directed the Punjab government on Wednesday to file a reply on a petition by 125 police constables challenging the departmental order regarding their demotion from head constables.

The constables said they were promoted to head constables but later the department had cancelled their promotion orders on the grounds that the promotion examination was not held in a transparent manner.

“What is the next date for exams?” the judge asked. The law officer had no response.

The chief justice (CJ) observed that it seemed that the government had decided not to obey courts order.

The CJ adjourned the hearing for three weeks and directed the Gujranwala regional police officer to submit a report.
