LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Punjab government to regularise the contractual employees of the Gojra town municipal administration, Toba Tek Singh, within one month.

Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan passed the order on a petition filed by Abid Hussain, Muhammad Sajid and Abdullah, employees of the Gojra TMA. The petitioners, through Advocate Irfan Ahmed, submitted that they had been serving on contract for the last five years.

They accused the government of discrimination, saying some employees with connections to influential people had been given regular contracts while those lacking connections had been left behind.

They said that the chief minister had issued directoves to regularise employees in 2011, but only a couple of employees had been made permanent. They asked the court to direct the government to regularise them.

After hearing the arguments, the court disposed of the petition, directing the Punjab government to regularise contract employees in grade 1 to 15 within a month.
