RAWALPINDI: The govenment of Pakistan is all set to issue a red warrant to Interpol’s headquarters for the arrest of former president Pervez Musharraf on the orders of the anti-terrorism court-I in Rawalpindi in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case.

A senior official of the Interior Ministry, on condition of anonymity, told The Express Tribune that the all documentation will be dispatched to Interpol authorities in Geneva by evening, today (Wednesday).

Federal Investigation Agency’s prosecutor in the Benazir Bhutto murder probe, Chaudhry Zulfiqar told The Express Tribune that the documentation was completed and forwarded to the Interior Ministry. He added that the Interior Ministry is “likely to forward it by the evening, today.”

Musharraf will be placed on Interpol’s most wanted list after an arrest notice is issued by the agency.

The warrant states that Musharraf should be brought back to Pakistan in order to carry out proceedings against him in the murder probe.

The documentation submitted by the Federal Investigation Agency to the Interior Ministry entails the summary/investigation documents, copies of the statements given by the then director-general of Counter Intelligence wing of ISI Javed Iqbal Cheema and former director-general of Intelligence Bureau of Pakistan Ejaz Shah have also been sent to Interpol, US-based journalist Marc Siegel’s e-mail to Bhutto, copy of the court orders and other orders of ATC.

The investigation officer of the murder probe, Deputy Director Federal Investigation Agency Khalid Rasool had forwarded the arrest documents to the Interior Ministry, which moved it to the concerned authority of Interpol in Pakistan.

The warrant will be sent via e-mail and through post.

Earlier this month, Interior Minister Rehman Malik revealed the investigation report of the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in the Sindh Assembly and vowed to bring then president Pervaiz Musharraf back to the country.

He also assured the Senate that Musharraf would be arrested upon his return to Pakistan.
“I assure this house that if he lands in Pakistan, he will be arrested because he is a proclaimed offender in the Benazir Bhutto murder case,” the minister had said.

The interior minister’s assurance comes a day after Senator Raza Rabbani submitted a 10-point charge sheet in Senate, calling for the former dictator’s arrest.

Malik said the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government never said that it would not take action against Musharraf, and added that while it is the responsibility of the federal government to give an order for registering a case against Musharraf, it is important for someone to register a complaint in this regard.

It think PPP start its election camping

This fugitive from Hindustan has on his hands the blood of too many innocent people. He is not just responsible for the murder of Benazir Bhutto. He is also responsible for the murder of Akbar Bugti, innocent girls at Lal Masjid, May 12 massacre in of Pashtuns, Sindhi, Punjabis in Karachi, and for giving sanctuary to terrorist and public enemy Osama in a purpose built fortress at Abbottabad thus aiding and abetting Al-Qaeda terrorists to kill Pakistanis with impunity.

Pakistan is here at the edge of doom due to Musharaf today.
After drones, terrorism jobs by agents like raymond davis, sold air-bases, sold pakistaniz, lot of secret agreement with U.S., NRO….. here our country is, its what we have become !!!
don’t you know that he was calling all the shots when he was the president????
U.S. is claiming our land now (Balochistan- yeah wake up)
the current weakest & ineligible govt….. is just an extension of Musharaf’s ideology, so he has already ruined the honor & safety of Pakistan- this govt is just executing what Musharaf promised…. with “add-ons” while making their own money- simply hired NRO Products !!!!!

It is election time and PPP would like to make such impressions to their voters that they are sincere to solve BB’s murder case. PPP government will restrict to such alluring slogans and is not sincere in solving BB’s Murder case.
If PPP is really going to bring back Musharraf for trial then it will be beneficial for PPP’s election campaign for the reasons:
    1. PML(N) has been asking for arrest of Musharraf and bringing him to justice and PPP will win PML(N)’s hearts and minds.
    2. Baluch leaders will be happy to see a hand cuffed Musharraf and would be willing to come to a table talk with PPP Government.
    3. PPP will have something to show their voters that they have solved the BB’s murder mystery.

A good move by the government, it is a win win situation for Pakistan, its politicians and even army, here is why:
    1) Musharaff had always claimed that he is a ‘super patriot’ and everything he did and will do for is beneficial to only pakistan. If musharaff is caught and tried for bugti’s murder, this will go long way towards building baloch confidence and trust in pakistan. Dear ex-general musharaff, cant you sacrifice your posh life in london for the peace and unity of your beloved nation?
This is a win for pakistan and its awam!
    2) Politician can claim that for once in the life of pakistan, a ‘military general’ has been bought to justice. This will also bring some respect for independent judiciary and the democratic system.
    3) Finally, by not opposing arrest of musharaff (who is a spent bullet anyway), the khakis can claim that they are fair and just and are willing to prosecute their own for the sake of national interest (as the khakis dont tire of claiming to be doing whats best in ‘national’ interest only 24/7!)
    See? Win Win for all!

Sir Musharraf Zindabad. Tusi Great Ho.
First of all she broke the NRO deal by coming to Pakistan before the elections. Secondly inspite of threats she is moving around as if there was no threats to her. Musharraf has to house arrest her for a little while so that she may not be killed. Thirdly why she has to take her head out of the hood when she was sitting in a bullet proof car. All the events proved that she asked to get killed and so she was killed why blaming anybody until you have proved that that person killed her personally and have witnesses.Recommend

This is a sad commentary in and of itself. Blaming Musharraf for BB’s murder… its truly hilarious…seeing as how when he was in power he was the only one to openly state that BB would be in danger were she to return to Pakistan. His reign was hardly perfect..far from it..but look how Pakistan is flourishing nowadays…with a ‘strong constitution’ and a ‘true democracy’.

@salim: I think the real racism is found in a lot of people from Karachi who blindly support this dictator on ethnic grounds. The simple truth is that Musharraf took over illegally and ruled as a dictator contravening the constitution he was supposed to uphold in his military oath. In any nation this is called treason except Pakistan where he has some who blindly follow him based on ethnicity. When most Pakistanis from all provinces want to see him charged and put in jail why do so many Karachiites who share Musharraf’s Indian ancestry want to support him? To me they should think of the nation and not of Musharraf’s Indian background. This is racism to me.
