Bin Laden had been assassinated by a team of US special forces, who stormed his residential compound in Abbottabad on May 2, 2011. Bin Laden was believed to have bunkered in the complex for close to five years.
Heavy machinery including the shovel s have been called into demolish the compound.
All routes leading up to the compound have been sealed. Media too has been directed to stay away.
The reason for demolishing the structure are as yet unknown.
In January, British newspaper The Sun had reported that Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad, could be flattened by rocket-propelled grenades and then bulldozed.
The report stated: “Military chiefs in Pakistan plan a spectacular blitz in front of TV cameras to prevent the walled complex becoming a sick shrine to the al Qaeda terror master.”
The report further quoted Interior Minister Rehman Malik as saying: “We will hit it like an enemy fort. But first we must erase everything related to Bin Laden from our country.”
The report had claimed that the demolition will take place in February, a claim that seems to be coming true.
However, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) denied the report.

@ all who thinks it was actually OBL hidout, guys any proof that OBL was actually hiding there, plz don't say that CIA, Obama said so to make u believe. Bush also told the world about nukes in Iraq and still they haven't found any. The way OBL was caught and buried raise doubts....... It's a pity that we live in scientific world where everything is judged using scientific evidence, but in case of OBL and Iraq nukes not. Only US statements are enough to make us believe.

This building presented a symbol of great embarassment to the military of their alleged failure to safeguard the sovergenity of the country and also its renovation done during the period of a former General who was ruling Pakistan.
@Omar: You're right..In the past few years,my respect towards Jinnah has increased many fold.He was a visionary who knew that there were two types of Muslims One who believed in secularism and right to equality One who were inbred with radicalism and would start jihad at the drop of the hat.
He decided that latter should be given a separate country where they can fight among themselves and leave the good Muslims and Hindus alone....
Pakistan is that cancerous tissue amputated from India so that the good muslims can live peacefully in India along with Hindus,Sikhs,Christians....

Destorying the building will not destory the fact that PAK provided a safe heaven for the most wanted terrorist in the world. Nor will it destory the memeory that PAK did this.

Another attempt at re-writing history. History doesn't belong to a community,race,religion,country or whatever; it's universal. It's a criminal act of historical proportion and every crime leaves a trail behind. Mind you, it has been recorded,documented and been consigned to posterity.
They should have done that years ago, it would saved Pakistan from the embarrassment it suffered an year ago.

Potentially, a great tourist attraction! But being so close to the military base and with such a bad name associated, seems like a rational action.
It is a good job which the government is doing.

This is also an indication that US war on terror is going to end very soon.
After you knock down the fortress you should erect a monument to Dr. Shakeel Afridi in that spot as a reminder of how Pakistan contributed to the fall of OBL.

The place were Benazir Bhutto was assacinated was washed away, immediately after the incident, probably to erase any trace of forensics. This incident has got the same symptoms.

When OBL was not in Pakistan alive and living in this fortress then why is this building being demolished? Despite the denials the establishment is finally doing the same to his home as the Americans did to him and his body!
