LONDON: Pakistan's foreign minister on Thursday welcomed US proposals to resume cooperation on counterterrorism and Afghanistan after a Pakistani parliamentary review of US-Pakistan relations, a senior US official told reporters.
"In terms of the vision the secretary laid out of kind of getting back into business on questions like counterterrorism, the region, Afghanistan, I think the foreign minister was very welcoming of that," the US official said after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held a one-hour, 15-minute meeting with Pakistan's Hina Rabbani Khar in London.
Republicans, Democrats against Rohrabacher's Balochistan Resolution
Meanwhile a Congressional delegation led by Congressman David Dreier called on Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani at the PM House.
The delegation expressed the view that the US fully supports Pakistan's security and territorial integrity and both the Republican and Democrats were against the Resolution tabled by an individual on Balochistan.
Dreier is Chairman House Democracy Partnership and Chairman House Rules Committee.
The prime minister conveyed serious concerns about the Balochistan Resolution tabled by US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher at the Sub-Committee level, also pointing out unilateral actions such as drone strikes, adding that they were unacceptable and counter-productive.
"There was a need to discuss and overcome the situation created by such strikes," Gilani said.
“The people of Pakistan expect US to be mindful and respectful of Pakistan's national interests and in particular its security and territorial integrity.”
The Congressmen agreed with the prime minister that the trust deficit should be removed and that the US Congress and Pakistan's Parliamentarians can play an important role in this regard.

@Shahid - you need more education about Pakistan. Yes both Pakistan and USA should have a better relationship and USA has more in common with Pakistan than India. Pakistan and USA can have even a better understanding and relationship if USA stops using India as their advisor about Pakistan as that would lead to a conflict of interest and benefit no one. Great were those days when both Pakistan and USA were buddies and bosom friends about a decade and a half ago before India interfered. Now comming to the other point about Pak Army - let me tell you my friend . . .Pak army has the best interest for the people of Pakistan, they are their defenders and have high ethical values. Unfortunately, the civillian govt has not represented the basic interest and well being of the Pakistani public and has jeopardised their very livelihood. It has brought gloom and doom to the nation unfortunately. So, there you go . . .nothing further to say.

Civilian Government has no time to do anything for the country. They are too busy with their corruption and making arrangements to stay in power for another term. Other than this if they have a little spare time they would like to use it for increasing the prices of petroleum, gas and electricity.
Stop Pakistani Military inciting anti U.S sentiments in Pakistan. We value and want improved relationship between two countries. Both countries have much more in common than differences in their ultimate goals. Pakistani army does not represent the people.
Maybe it's time for the civilian govt to actually take control over foreign policy matters - until that happens these events are largely photo ops done only to show that the USA supports Pakistan.
