Science fair at Giki: Rootsians clinch first position

A total of 50 teams from various colleges and universities participated in the event

The 13th All Pakistan Science Fair 2012 was held by Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology from February 17 to 19. A total of 50 teams from various colleges and universities participated in the event, comprising a science contest and science exhibition. Students of Roots College International (RCI), who displayed a ‘stirling engine’ model at the exhibition, clinched first position in the competition. The model, which was a source of renewable energy and can be used to supplement electricity to produce energy from other resources, can help overcome power shortage in Pakistan.The team representing RCI comprised of five students, namely Najib Ishaq, Waqar Ahmed, Shahzaib Zahid, Mujeeb Akhtar and Zaeem Afzal. In addition to that, the students also performed well in the contest, which consisted of kasoty, model-making and Eureka rounds.
