MQM's rally 'last nail in coffin' of nationalists: Altaf Hussain

SUKKUR / KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain on Friday said that his party’s massive gathering in Sukkur was the last nail in the coffin of nationalists spreading hatred amongst the people of Sindh.

Calling himself the son of the soil and hailing Sindh as his mother, Hussain said that the people gathered at the rally today have rejected hatred by coming here.

“The political manipulation has ended and the Mohajirs and Sindhis are standing here like an unbreakable steel wall,” Hussain said.

The MQM chief also said that Sindh’s contribution to the national revenue is about 70 per cent, which is more than any other province.

“If Sindh is given its due share of wealth, then it can prosper and will end the feudal system,” he added.

Division of Sindh an ‘unforgivable sin’: Sattar

With fingers raised at MQM’s Twentieth Amendment Bill, calling for the creation of Southern Punjab and Hazara provinces, MQM’s Farooq Sattar said that his party deemed the division of Sindh an “unforgivable sin”.

Sattar, speaking at a rally, snubbed the Sindh Assembly’s earlier opposition which called MQM’s Twentieth Amendment Bill a “furtive action” and said that it was meant to divide the province and carve out another province where MQM would control everything.

He said that the MQM does not want a “certificate” of being a Sindhi from anyone.

Sattar said that Sindh had played a vital role in the creation of Pakistan. “Had Pakistan Resolution not been passed from the Sindh Assembly, Pakistan would not have been created. Pakistan has survived on the basis of the resolution passed by the Sindh Assembly and the sacrifices made by the people of Sindh.”

He said that Pakistan can only prosper if Sindh prospers. “Sindh is the engine of Pakistan’s success.”

“Altaf Hussain does what he says,” he said. “We changed the map of Karachi with the little authority we were given. We changed the map of Hyderabad too. If we are given a chance to improve the condition of Sindh, we will change the map of Sindh.”

He said, “MQM has knocked out the whole team of feudals and the so-called nationalists with a single ball.”

“MQM is the last train for the prosperity of Sindh, if you miss this train, there will be no train coming after,” Sattar said.

Congratulations to Muttahida Qaumi Movement on organizing a successful gathering in Sukkur. If I say I’ve never seen such a discipline before, it would be a lie as MQM always has demonstrated such a discipline regardless of the number of people attending. Well done.

With actions, motives are shaped not with mere silver coating words. Through proposal for 20th amendment, you are trying to take away the fundamental rights of provinces to decide about their demarcation. You are playing wisely your cards towards division of Sindh. But people of Sindh understands your hidden motives and actions. If you are sincere, prove it through actions, and apologize for proposal on 20th amendment.

Why the division of Sindh is unforgivable but division of Punjab is forgivable? These politicians are spreading hatered among people of Pakistan. Instead of unity they are dividing us.

Mr. Sattar, are they not overwhelming majority Saraiki speaking areas in upper Sindh?
If so, should they not for part of Saraikistan?

So don’t be hypocritical! Don’t talk of any devision of Punjab and treat Sindh like a “golden cattle”.Recommend

Yes, based on the resource and wealth sharing. Last year, nearly 62% of budget of Punjab was spent in Lahore only. A year before it was nearly 55%. And I believe you better know that Lahore is not the only city in Punjab.

It seems that MQM is trying to ‘re-position’ itself as a Sindhi party rather than a Mohajir Party. First of all, it does not come across as genuine. Secondly, even if they succeed, they will still graduate to Sindh based divisive politics perpetuating the existing myopic view of ethnic politics.

The creation of Provinces should be solely based on the sharing of Resource and Wealth. It is not merely based on Ethnicity. This is what MQM has said while submitting the 20th Amendment Bill.

If you improve your reading comprehension, you will come to realize that the only reason why the MQM is demanding a separate Seraiki province is because the Seraiki people are demanding one. It is the aspiration of the Seraiki people, and has been for many decades. The people of Sindh, including the Mahajirs do not want Sindh to be divided, so why would the MQM raise the issue for the division of Sindh, when the two permanent residents of Sindh (Sindhis and Mahajirs) do not want it?

Great work done by MQM, it was a massive gathering which shows that MQM is a popular party in rural Sindh too. For all those who are saying why not divide Sindh, it is b/c usually people who are deprived ask for their rights/new provinces but the people of rural Sindh are satisfied and they are not asking for any new province, similarly Karachi Hyderabad and one of the most progressive cities of Pakistan why should they ask or any new province so their is no need to divide Sindh …

I feel sorry for your naivety. If you would have just gone through the 20th amendment you would know what MQM is intending. 20th amendment says that boundaries of provinces are not sacred. Furthermore the amendment intends ‘very clearly’ to snatch away the right of protecting their geographical identity. Why would MQM talk about Sindh’s division as they know it will expose them. Rather they are taking refuge behind a Siraiki cause. A party which gets Karachis walls painted with Muhajir province on one politicians instigation( despite their claims of being sons of Sindhi soil) can be expected for anything in the future. Siraiki province issue can be resolved constitutionally as their is a provision for new province in the article which they are trying to amend. Why does not MQM go the constitutional way? Is it so hard? Why are they trying to amend an article which gives power of protecting province’s boundaries and thus rendering the provinces completely powerless against their division? The reasons are clear only they are unable to pass through you naivety.Recommend

Punjab must be divided because it is too big.. it is bigger than many countries like Malayisa or Thailand. Therefore, its administration is too difficult. Second, it alone is bigger than rest of the provinces combined which is not good for the federation. Third reason is that the dominance by Northern Punjab has retarded the development of Southern Punjab. Hence Punjab province must be divided.

Nomi, please stop making up facts on this forum. The Mahajirs have never claimed that they want Sindh divided. Just because it is the opinion of you and your family members, does not mean that ALL of Mahajirs want Sindh divided. The fact is that the MQM is the sole representative political force representing 96% of Mahajirs in Sindh, and if the MQM does not want Sindh to be divided, I can say that the MQM is serving the wishes of the masses. CASE CLOSED !!!
