LAHORE:

Observing the scores of art lovers visiting the display and the amount of appreciation received, the National College of Arts thesis show has been extended by three days. It will now end on Wednesday.

Students talking to The Express Tribune said they hoped to attract attention from entrepreneurs and commercial markets.

“There is a lot of assemblage in society. In today’s world we create our own work space and a virtual space because of the internet,” said Mustafa Ahmad Sadozai, whose work is showcased at the annual thesis display.

Explaining the idea behind his architectural artwork, Sadozai said his work was based on the Assemblage Theory that pertains to the idea of a system as a whole constructed from heterogeneous groups. Keeping this in mind, he said, he created a highly experimental commercial space defying some renowned theories based on the concept of skyscrapers.

“With the advent of the iPad, I think there is no need for a classroom anymore,” he added. Tayyab Faheem’s thesis secured him a distinction in architecture.

“As the global climate takes a turn for the worse and the water levels rise, we need to be prepared for this and that’s where I get the inspiration for my thesis,” she said. She said she has created a floating community that would be able to survive a global calamity.

Zainab Shaukat, who graduated with honours, experimented with Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory and Frobel’s Gift Model. She used the cubes in Frobel’s model to build an interactive activity centre for children.

Textile student Hasnain Raza Gardezi received a distinction for his experimental clock designed with textiles and metals, inspired by Amin Gulgee’s sculptures. Another textile student, Aqsa Ilyas, received an honour certificate for her use of handmade textiles to make sculptures.
