PM extends two-day weekend till October 31

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday extended two-day weekend for government employees till October 31.


The decision to extend the weekend came after a meeting to discuss the energy crisis was held, where all four chief ministers were present.


Gilani said electricity supply will be increased by 2,000 megawatts this year. He said the centre and provinces are cooperating in electricity savings schemes.


He added that all energy conservation projects have been extended by three months.


Protests in Sukkar against loadshedding


Meanwhile, in Sukkar, one man was injured when police resorted to baton charge protesters gathered at by-pass road to stage a demonstration against loadshedding.


The locals protested against 22-hour power outages in the area and hurled stones at police for resorting to baton charge. They blocked the national highway for all kinds of traffic and also caused damage to several vehicles.


They also warned to continue their protest till the restoration of power supply in their area.

FAShah | 13 years ago | Reply I would suggest three holidays in a week because Friday is almost a holiday anyways. Also more holidays would mean more days without corruption. Good for the country. isn't it?
